CAMBRIDGE THIRD AGE LEARNING
The Presidency of Donald Trump with Dr. George Breckenridge, Associate Professor, Political Science, McMaster University
Come to hear the evolving story of the 2017 election in the U.S. and the impact of the presidency of Donald Trump during his first year in office. This will be a continuation of Dr Breckenridge’s lecture presented to CTAL in 2017: The Causes and Consequences of Donald Trump. Dr. Breckenridge will discuss what has happened in the year following the emergence of Donald Trump as a major political force.
Trump vs. Washington:
Who's winning? How far has the president been boxed in by the institutional structures? Is he doing permanent damage to American democracy? The economic impact will depend on the NAFTA negotiations and the softwood lumber appeal. Many of the changes in American society which have made Trump possible have also affected Canada. Could a Trump happen in Canada?
Dr. George Breckenridge has M.A.s from Glasgow and Duke and a Ph.D. also from Duke. He was Associate Professor of Political Science at McMaster until retirement but has continued to teach an American politics class.
About Cambridge Third Age Learning (CTAL)
Cambridge Third Age Learning (CTAL) is a movement that encourages learning and discovery experiences for those in the “third age”—the stage in one’s life beyond full-time employment. By cultivating opportunities for discussion and engaging the expertise of local university professors and community professionals, CTAL supports those who have an intellectual curiosity and an interest in life-long learning. At Idea Exchange, our hope is to foster a self-organized group which would create CTAL programs throughout the year with our support as a venue and promotional vehicle.
