Jordyn Stewart is an emerging artist from the Niagara Region. She works predominately in video and performance and her practice is influenced by the body's relationship to spaces we inhabit. Her most recent work is an inter-disciplinary installation, combining performative, sculptural and lens-based strategies. A series of found objects and hybrid sculptures that merge constructed and natural elements accompany video works that speak to and consider western societies interpretation of our natural landscape and how these spaces are re-imagined in the urban setting. Furthering her research around the concepts of site-specificity, the performing body, object-hood, play and place she focuses on the landscape as a constructed experience by interrogating leisure activities associated with the outdoors.
Stewart received her BA, Specialist in Art and Art History at the University of Toronto, join program with Sheridan College. Stewart is currently an MFA Candidate at the University of Waterloo. This is her thesis exhibition.
