Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and studied commercial art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology. In 1949, he moved to New York City and began a career in magazine illustration and advertising. Warhol was an early adopter of silk screen printmaking process as a technique for making paintings. His open use of market culture and bright colors made him a leading figure in pop art.
