Bruce Aitkin was a native of Galt. He was a church chorister, mailman and WWII veteran who won the Visual Arts Award in the Bernice Adams Memorial Awards Hall of Fame in 1994. Aitkin taught himself card or tablet weaving with the help of a library book, and began to design his own work. He gave weaving lessons at the local school board and gave workshops at the Ontario Science Centre, the Ontario Crafts Council, and in San Antonio, Texas. A piece of Aikin’s work is held in the Massey Foundation Collection at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa.
