Hilde Schreier was born in Vienna, Austria. In 1953, she settled in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She studied stage setting and costume design at the Academy for Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria. Her work covers a variety of media: watercolor, acrylic, dyed fiber as well as stage and costume design, printing, etching and painting. She is known to use different techniques including knotting, twinning and basket weave. In Ottawa Hilde taught printmaking and sculpture at the Municipal Arts Centre and later at the Ottawa School of Art when it changed its name. She has participated in many solo and group shows across Canada. Schreier is represented in the collection of Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario and in City of Ottawa Art Collections.
