Jane Kidd was born in Victoria, British Columbia and taught at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, Alberta from 1979 until 2010. She returned to British Columbia to continue an active studio practice. Her extensive travels have allowed her to pursue interests in historic and multi-cultural textile production, which has greatly influenced her own tapestries. Her woven tapestries encompass symbolic images and are full of colour. She was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 2001 and was awarded the Alberta Craft Council Award of Excellence in 2008. She has exhibited in numerous shows across Canada, the United States, Japan, Poland, Hungary and Australia and has produced several large commissions for public buildings in Canada. Her work is found in the Canada Council Art Bank, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Alberta Art Foundation, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
