Karin Jones was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, and received a diploma in Jewellery Art and Design from Vancouver, Community College in 1993. From 1995-96 Jones apprenticed under Master Goldsmiths Heinz and Hermann Laatzen in Hamburg, Germany. Since then she has worked as a goldsmith and designer at jewellery stores in Vancouver, created a line of silver and enamel jewellery, and perfected her own method of Damascene inlay, an age-old technique for inlaying silver and gold on steel. Jones's work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, Finland, Korea, and Japan. She has taken a leave from the Master of Fine Arts in the Jewellery and Craft program, at NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to accept a teaching position at Vancouver Community College.

She draws inspiration from historic crafts; from metalwork to fashion and textiles, as well as from observing the world around her. Jones loves to immerse herself in the process of making, and the calm it brings helps her reflect on various aspects of society, the natural world, and herself. In an increasingly digitized world, Jones believes the handmade can act as a grounding force, bringing us back to the materiality of life, and the wonder of creating complex forms using only a few simple tools and materials, our hands, and our imaginations.
