Born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1943, Koen De Winter received degrees in ceramics from the École des Métiers d’Art de Maredsous and product design from the Akademie voor Industriële Vormgeving in Eindhoven. He has been involved in product design, first at Volvo in Sweden, then at Mepalservice (Mepal/Rosti), and at Danesco. He currently teaches at UQAM and serves on many professional associations. As well, with Ginette Rochon, he founded Hippo Design and then Atelier Orange. The quality of his practice has earned him several national and international distinctions. He represents Quebec in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2005, his country of birth recognized his career with its highest distinction for design, the Henri Van De Velde Prize.
