Based out of Hamilton Ontario, Nicole Levaque uses 2-D and 3-D media to highlight mimicry of industrial materials via the human hand.Taking both imagery and material from surrounding environments is fundamental to her practice, as well as letting travel and immersive residencies shape new material choices and aesthetics. Levaque holds a BFA with distinction from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, where she was commissioned for a public sculpture by the university in 2013. She has exhibited extensively in Montreal, most notably at the FOFA Gallery (2014, 2012) and Art Mur (2014). Since leaving Montreal in September Levaque has spent much of this time traveling internationally for both residencies and collective projects with artist peers in Berlin and Stockholm. Levaque has completed international residencies and public talks in Iceland (SIM, 2014) and Mexico (VON 2014) and Portland Oregon (RADPDX 2015). She will be showing in Norway (June 2015) and is organizing an upcoming residency and exhibition in Bogota Columbia late 2015 with participating artists from Canada, France and Columbia. Currently Levaque is part of a studio collective in Hamilton Ontario and helps run Gallery Casino, an artist initiated exhibition space.
