Polina Teif is a multi-diciplinary artist currently based in Toronto. Born in Belarus spent the majority of her early life in Israel and South Africa before moving to Canada to pursue her art education. Her practice spans across various media to include photography, video, installation and works on paper. Her practice centres around the need to make visible the hidden assumptions embedded in contemporary culture and point to the limits of perception. Often using simple and transparent methods to both celebrate and critique the everyday, pointing to the absurdity of what is commonly considered as common sense.
She received her BFA from the University of Toronto with emphasis on Visual Studies and Semiotics. She is a founding member of XXXX Collective and continues to engage in collaborative projects. Her work has been published in the Hart House Review, Magenta magazine and Aesthetica Magazine. In addition to her own practice, she works as a member XXXX Collective and her work has exhibited at the AGO First Thursday’s, Mississauga Living Arts Centre, Gallery Stratford, Birch Contemporary, Art Metropole, Hart House, UTAC, Nuit Blanche.
