Ted Hodgetts was born in Kingston, Ontario. He graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1970. Originally a cabinet maker, he is known for his wood work, primarily wood turning. He is a multiple recipient of Ontario Council for the Arts grants and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the United States and Europe. In 2000, one of Hodgetts' turned vessels was featured on a Canadian postage stamp as part of the Millennium Collection, commissioned by Canada Post, to celebrate the history of Canada. His work can be found in many private, corporate and public collections, such as the Charles Bronfman’s Claridge Collection in Montreal, Quebec; the Ontario Crafts Council Permanent Collection in Toronto, Ontario, and the Woodturning Centre Collection in Philadelphia among others.
