  • Baseball players sitting on bench and holding gloves and balls

There is a balminess that you can feel in the air when Spring is just around the corner. The breeze is sweet. The sun waits a little longer to set. And if you turn on your TV, you will see that at long last, baseball is back.

For anyone who loves the game, April is the best time of year. It marks the beginning of another season of hope, a fresh start, where anything is possible.

What’s so special about baseball? It’s all the little things combined into one perfect day. It’s the calls of “Ice cold drinks here!”, combined with the sizzle of hotdogs and big bags overflowing with popcorn.

It’s the possibility that you might catch a foul ball, that you might meet your hero.

As you watch the game, and the summer sky turns dark and the CN tower glows blue, you start to wonder if you should leave to catch the early train. But you just can’t, because at any moment, maybe this next at bat, the magic will happen, and we’ll get back in the game.

As Brad Pitt said so eloquently in Moneyball, “How can you not be romantic about baseball?”

Here are some great baseball movies for you to watch while you’re waiting for Spring:

Moneyball  Field of Dreams Bull Durham  42 : the Jackie Robinson story  A league of their own

The Natural  The Sandlot  The Bad News Bears  Baseball : A Film by Ken Burns   Fastball

These are some great movie suggestions (especially "A League of Their Own," which is a personal favourite)! Fans of the "Fastball" documentary might also enjoy 2013's "Knuckleball," which features former Toronto Blue Jay, R.A. Dickey.
