~~This program is currently being offered in July/August 2021. See calendar for details.~~
Greetings, junior coders!
Join us as we explore the basics of computer science by playing with robots!
After borrowing a series of handy take-home resource kits, you'll login one afternoon a week for half an hour to explore how to use a variety of different robots and other coding resources. We'll use our robots to make art, code video games, and solve problems. We'll even teach them how to dance and follow other instructions. Participants are expected to sign up for and attend all sessions as the number of kits and spaces is limited. We'll also learn about some of history's coding superheroes by reading stories together.
Learning objectives for Code Masters include:
- Pattern recognition
- Pattern (re)construction
- Conditional logic
- Basic syntax
- Basic math operations
- Digital interfaces
- Algorithmic thinking
- Online learning
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Resource sharing
Here are links to some of the downloadable resources that we will use in the program:
- Pokemon Ozobot tiles
- Template for Bee Bot Mask/Suit
- Bee Bot Pac Man LEGO tiles
- Cubelet challenge cards
- Cubelet Connection Tutorial
- Bloxels Workbook
- Ozobot Bowling sheets
- Ozobot Costume bits
- Ozobot Starter Cards
- Ozobot Quick Start Guide
- Sphero Square Dancing Tutorial
To have even more fun you can use our catalogue to request some “unplugged” coding resources to explore while practising skills like conditional thinking, pattern recognition, and more! Catalogue search “PlaySmarts: Think” to bring up what’s available. You’ll even find some add-ons for our coding robots to borrow in the PlaySmarts collection!
See you in cyberspace!
