Donkeys… There is something so kind and gentle in the face of a donkey. Donkeys were domesticated more than 5000 years ago and are related to horses and zebras although they have much longer ears. Donkeys tend to be more cautious than horses and have a well-earned reputation for being stubborn. If they feel unsafe in any situation, they dig in their heels and refuse to move. Owners must learn to be patient in order to gain a donkey’s trust.
If you are looking for an up close experience with a donkey, try visiting the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada near Guelph. They are open to visitors from May to October and hold special Christmas festivities during the month of December. Also, check our collection for more donkey fun facts and heart-warming stories.
