Lia at Queen's Square | August 9, 2018
It was Donny’s first time visiting the Queen’s Square Summer Reading Club desk today, accompanied by his mom and little brother, Jordan. Donny is in Grade 2 French immersion, but prefers borrowing and talking about English books because “French is much harder.”
Donny really enjoyed reading Spongebob adventures this week, recalling a tale about Squidward’s clarinet. He also recounted a Pete the Cat story, giggling while he thought about Pete refusing to go swimming but finally giving it a try.
Donny likes to read Pete the Cat as well as LEGO Ninjago books at home. Sometimes he even reads to his little brother, even if Jordan (4 months) doesn’t understand everything.
Donny’s mom encouraged him to pick more in French to strengthen his foreign language skills. In fact, Donny also knows some Spanish and Lao. His mom is originally from Laos, but Donny and his brother were born and live here and usually speak English and Lao at home.
All of the Reach for the Stars! prizes looked really tempting, so Donny put one ticket in each bin. “I have CNE passes at home from my school,” he said, although he wouldn’t mind having another free ticket.
Donny is taking home two Spongebob books and one Pete the Cat book today, and he hopes to come back soon and report on more.
