Carroll, Idea Exchange | December 13, 2017
If you find winter difficult, we’ve got just the thing to boost your spirits during the cold, dark months. Graciously provided by the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council and the Preston Chapter IODE, each Idea Exchange location now boasts a Light Therapy lamp that will provide members with relief from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). If you’ve not heard of SAD, it is a type of depression related to changes in the season, with symptoms starting in the fall and continuing through the winter months. SAD can drain your energy and make you feel moody.
Light therapy lamps produce levels of light that are similar to sunshine, and is one form of treatment available to people suffering the effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder. They have been proven successful in relieving SAD symptoms such as irritability, difficulty concentrating, fatigue and decreased energy, and they are easy to use; simply sit within 1-2 feet of the lamp so that the light shines on your face.
Lamps are available for use in each Idea Exchange location on a first come, first served basis from September 2017 until March 2018. It is recommended that you use the lamp for no longer than 30 minutes each day to achieve maximum benefit. You can read, knit, or do desk work while using the lamp – let us help chase the winter blues away!
