Out of books?

As we enter another week of physical distancing and staying home, I am sure you are getting tired of reading, re-reading, re-reading and reading again the same books to your kids. While this is essential for comprehension, building vocabulary, and word recognition (you can read more about this in an article on Read Brightly) for your kids, it can drive parents nuts. Why not take a well-deserved break and let these celebrities and authors read to your kids?

Michelle Obama – The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

Betty White – Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion

Jimmy Fallon – Everything is Mama by Jimmy Fallon

B.J. Novak – The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak

Jaime Camil – Zombies Don’t Eat Veggies by Megan and Jorge Lacera

Arron Blabey – Thelma the Unicorn by Aaron Blabey

Oprah Winfrey – Hula Hoopin’ Queen by Thelma Lynne Godin

Dolly Parton – Llama Llama Red Pajama – Anna Dewdney

Canadian author Robert Munsch reads all of his books on Tumble Books, which is free through our website. And if you’re a fan of the Pigeon books by Mo Willems you can watch the animated version on Kanopy. Scroll to the bottom of our Books, Movies, Music page to access both! If you are still looking for some fresh books for you to read aloud with your kids check out the kids downloadLibrary. You can put popular books on hold or sort by what is available now to read. You will need a membership to use downloadLibrary, so if you don't already have one, sign up for an online membership today!

As the weather starts to get nicer (hopefully sooner than later) try taking your books outside to read. Sometimes a change of scenery can give a book a whole new life. Happy reading!
