Are you an amateur scientist? Do you love reading about science or conducting experiments at home? Are you fascinated by outer space? Then join us September 17-23 as we celebrate Science Literacy Week 2018!

This year, in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency, Science Literacy Week will focus on astronomy and our amazing, expansive universe. Here at Idea Exchange, we plan on celebrating with book displays, reading lists, as well as a series of programs designed to explore the cosmos.

Join us for the following events:              

Design your own Space Creature in TinkerCAD
Are you interested in 3D design? Learn how to design and 3D print a Space Creature using TinkerCAD. Laptops provided, please bring a USB. Admission is free.

When: Wednesday September 19, 7-8pm

The Night Sky: Stargazing Party (weather permitting)
Have you ever gazed up at the night sky and wished to understand the cosmos better? Enjoy a presentation about the planets and bodies within our Solar System and beyond. Gain an appreciation of the grand scale of celestial objects and distances. If weather permits, we will attempt to view Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and the Moon through telescopes. Admission is free. Drop-in.

Smartphone Science: Apps to Experiment, Explore and Discover
Explore the wonders of science and the natural world in your day-to-day life using free apps built for smartphones and tablets. This user-friendly tech talk will show you a diverse selection of the best apps out there for understanding the secret inner workings of the world around you. Admission is free, please register online or call (519) 621-0460

When: Saturday September 22, 3:30-4:30pm

Run the Solar System
Get fit and learn about space as you run the solar system in this all ages virtual race! Simply download the app and drop-in.
Where: Clemens Mill Library outdoor track
When: September 16-22, anytime during opening hours to complete the race at your own pace

The goal of Science Literacy Week 2018 is to showcase Canada’s amazing scientists, the diversity of Canadian science and to help us learn about incredible scientific discoveries! Search Idea Exchange’s collection for Science Literacy Week 2018 and be prepared to discover some amazing things!
