Black History Month

Abstract geometric red, yellow, green color background with black paper cut of a child's profile people silhouette.

Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians. It is also an opportunity to learn about Black history and how it has helped shape a multi-cultural Canadian identity. Celebrate Black History Month at Idea Exchange through activities, reading lists, and book displays.

An afternoon of fun activities for the whole family will be held at our Queen’s Square location with Rhythm & Blues Cambridge’s Black History Month Celebration (Saturday, February 24) featuring art, book readings, a history corner, drumming workshops, Caribbean cuisine, and more.

Our fiction reading list highlights fictional works by Black authors, some contemporary and some classic, while our non-fiction list features memoirs, historical works, and poetry collections focusing on the lived experiences of Black Canadians.

Check out more titles featured in our Black History Month book displays at each location
