We are so excited to partner with SPECTRUM - Waterloo Region's Rainbow Community Space for a new two-year project, generously funded by a grant from the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation.
Starting this summer, we will begin by offering the Families Under the Rainbow program to our community. The goal of the program is to help foster a safe and supportive environment for 2SLGBTQ+ youth, their families, and allies.
A strong sense of self and a feeling of belonging is so important to early years development. By providing 2SLGBTQ+-friendly programs for children, we open the door to empathy, understanding, and a love of learning.
In Families Under the Rainbow, we will offer a wide range of activities that will help support youth and families' sense of belonging, as well as introduce literature that shows positive 2SLGBTQ+ representation. Each program is designed in collaboration with an Idea Exchange programmer and an individual from SPECTRUM.
This program will travel to every Idea Exchange location over the next two years. Everyone is welcome to join us as we read stories, make crafts, and have fun playing together in a safe and supported environment.
