We are so excited to be able to offer the Ultimaker S5 at the Old Post Office. The S5 is an extraordinary printer with the latest technology, and we are thrilled to offer this resource to the community.

The Ultimaker S5 offers dual extrusion, which allows users to print simultaneously with multiple materials, or with a dissolvable filament called PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol). PVA is a water-soluble polymer that dissolves when soaked in water. This means you don't have to worry about getting hard-to-reach support pieces out manually.

This printer also provides fantastic quality, down to less than 1mm layer height -- perfect for small miniatures! It is also fully vented which means we can print with more functional material including nylon and semi-flexible TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane). Finally, the large build volume at 330 x 240 x 300 mm (13 x 9.5 x 11.8 inches) greatly increases the range of the S5's potential applications.

There are some great resources out there to get started learning about our new printer. I recommend checking out Ultimaker’s excellent online manual and this Cura software tutorial.

If you'd like to see what the S5 can do, you can submit a 3D print design to oporeception [at] ideaexchange.org and leave us a note saying you'd like to try this printer. Or, come by and check it out in person; it is a beautiful machine and a sight to behold!
