Make sure to pack your bathing suit for this performance!
Hosted by artists, Jordyn Stewart and Lauren Prousky, Poolside Performances is a poetry and performance event that will take place in an indoor pool as part of Common Waters. It invites writers, performers, etc. to respond to the word 'Buoyancy.'
Performers are invited to use the space in whatever safe way they choose and the audience will be free to swim, dip their feet in, or stay dry and just enjoy the art within a backdrop of familiar sounds and smells of a pool. After the performances, the event will turn into a free swim where people can move around, mingle, float, or cannonball.
For more information on how you can be a participant in the performance visit: https://www.facebook.com/events/860681454287357/
The deadline to apply as a performer/writer is July 18, 2019.
Jordyn Stewart is an emerging artist from the Niagara Region. Working predominantly in video and performance, her practice is inspired by the body's relationship to the spaces we inhabit. Approaching the landscape as a constructed experience, her recent work explores nature, place, and identity through the juxtaposition of the artificial and the real. Stewart holds a BA, Specialist in Art and Art history at the University of Toronto, joint program with Sheridan College. She is a recent MFA graduate from the University of Waterloo.
Lauren Prousky has an MFA from the University of Waterloo and holds a BFA in Studio Art and English Literature from Concordia University. She has shown her work around Montreal and Southern Ontario, and has completed residencies in Iceland, British Columbia, and Brooklyn. You can see more of Lauren's work at laurenprousky.com or follow her @laurenprousky on Instagram where you can also send her your favourite videos of cuttlefish changing colour. She loves those.
