Buoyancy: Poolside Performances invited creatives to submit work around the theme of 'buoyancy,' a prompt aimed to inspire responses about what it means to stay afloat. Our event will be situated in a public pool - a familiar childhood space that can transport us back to feeling vulnerable, powerful, safe, and sacred. By bringing art into this charge context, we hope to take a deep dive together into the intersections of leisure and work, recreation and creation, and the public and private.
Join us at the pool on Sunday August 10th for an hour of performance and poetry. Audience members are welcome to swim with us, dip their feet, or stay dry while artists perform in and out of the pool.
Please note that bathing suite or specifically designed swim clothes must be worn to enter the pool. Some of the works will be underwater so we will have a few pairs of goggles to share. If you have your own please bring them along.
Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
This is an inclusive event and we wish to create a space where people can feel comfortable. Racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, and transphobia will not be tolerated. Please let us know if you have any concerns about accessibility or suggestions about how to make this event more inclusive for everyone. The facility is wheelchair accessible and there is a family/all gender change room in addition to female/male change rooms.
