90 minutes is the time it takes for the average human cremation. Traces: On Death is a 90-minute long discussion that will deepen guests' connections with time and mortality. As moderator, Victoria Ngai poses questions to open a frank conversation about death and dying, a conversation often put off or avoided altogether. Over the course of the discussion, a clock visibly counts down the 90-minute time frame and sets forth an awareness of time. As a result, the guest's relationship to the clock constantly shifts—time slows down, speeds up, slips, emerges, recedes. By bringing attention to time and mortality, Traces: On Death hopes to shed light on these two invisible yet inescapable facts of life.
This event is part of the Traces exhibition.
