Join us for a lecture from Irene Luque Martin at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture. Irene comes to us from Amsterdam, NL, for a talk on her design research into how water can be a driving force towards healthy urbanism.
Irene Luque Martin has a PhD in Planning and Urban Technologies where she wa awarded Cum Laude and received 'International Mention' during her stay at the Centre of Urban Studies at the University of Amsterdam. Her thesis and current expertise focuses on understanding the role and application of urban technologies (Geographical Information Systems, artificial intelligence, urban simulations and visualization tools) in urban planning. She was presented with the 'Extraordinary Award' from the University of Seville with her thesis (MSc) about implementing artificial intelligence into Planning and Urban Design and is also a graduate (with Cum Laude) from the School of Architecture. In conjunction with her academic career she has been engaged and working in a wide range of planning and architectural offices in the South of Spain, and has done independent consultancy works focused on technological and participatory processes.
Irene is an active member of several institutions such as ISOCARP, Complex System Society, and AESOP where she is part of the coordination team of the Young Academic (YA) network, as well a visiting scientist at the University of Twente. Her main role in these institutions is to bring academia outcomes into daily practice methods and research.
At FABRICations, she implements her expertise in technology and methods by bridging the gap between theory and practice. She develops a wide range of projects related to healthy urbanism and sustainability. Her work focuses worldwide with a special interest on context such as Latinoamerica and Global south.
