Matt Quinn shares his story of disconnecting with technology and reconnecting with the natural world through photography.

Matt has worked as a software designer for the past 20 years and picked up a camera 5 years ago as a means to disconnect from technology and reconnect with the natural world around him. Always having a deep interest in the night sky, Matt pointed his camera upward and started capturing long exposure images that, like magic, revealed more than what his eyes could see. This experience pushed him further and further into remote areas to seek out the darkest skies he could find. Along the way Matt’s work grew beyond photography as the experience of being out in nature brought with it a healthy state of mind that fuelled him through the fast paced and technologically overwhelming world he was in everyday.

Matt’s work recently shifted focus to documenting and sharing stories of how people seek balance in their lives through reconnecting with nature. Matt’s photography work has been featured on numerous tourism social media feeds and in paper magazines. Recently, Matt appeared in a short docu-series with Subaru Canada where he taught short night sky photography tutorials and his work was also selected to appear on a Canadian stamp to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
