June 10: God Help the Girl (2014), not rated
From writer/director Stuart Murdoch (lead singer of beloved indie pop group Belle & Sebastian) comes a delightfully different musical. Eve (Emily Browning, American Gods) is a young woman who is low on self-esteem but high on fantasy, especially when it comes to music. Over the course of one Glasgow summer, she meets two similarly rootless souls: posh Cass (Hannah Murray, Game of Thrones) and fastidious James (Olly Alexander), and together they decide there's only one thing to do: form a pop group.
July 29: East Side Sushi (2014), PG
Single mom Juana can slice and dice anything with great speed and precision. After working at a fruit-vending cart for years, she decides to take a job at a local Japanese restaurant. Intrigued by the food, she learns to make a multitude of sushi on her own. Eventually she attempts to become a sushi chef, but is unable to because she is the 'wrong' race and gender. Against all odds, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery, determined to not let anyone stop her from achieving her dream.
August 26: A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2017), not rated
The story takes place in present day Hollywood - a place where glamorous stars, commanding moguls, starving artists and vaulting pretenders all vie to get ahead. In the tradition of Baz Luhrmann's rapturous re-imagining of Romeo + Juliet, this modern vision breathes new life into a classic tale. Combined with a cast of established and emerging stars, as well as a pulsing original soundtrack, the film will appeal to ardent fans of the Bard as well as audiences discovering Shakespeare for the first time.
