Idea Exchange | June 29, 2020

We’re taking our programs virtual this month at Idea Exchange! Connect online with our staff and other members of the community, all from the comfort of your home. Read on for some highlights, or check out our monthly calendar for the full list of programs we have planned.

Please note that all programs require registration and are delivered through Zoom.

Many of us had a plan for what 2020 would look like, and COVID-19 likely wasn’t included in that plan. Day to day life feels out of our control right now, but we can control our own emotional responses to this “new normal”. Join us for Practicing Mindfulness and Gratitude on Thursday, July 2 from 7:00 – 8:00pm and learn how we can transform the brain and help us feel more peaceful and less reactive.

With no set book to read, our UnBook Chats program is all about great conversation! Discuss what you’ve been reading, watching, or listening to while meeting new people in the community. Check the calendar for dates and times.

Experience a virtual walk around Galt with to learn about our rich history and culture at Virtual Walk to Remember: A Guided Tour of Historic Downtown Galt on Wednesday, July 8 from 10:30am – 12:00pm. Make your next neighbourhood walk one to remember!

Now, more than ever, music plays an important role in our lives, both for the listener and the performer! Join us for Musical Lives Guitar Open Mic, an online classical guitar concert featuring Southern Ontario musicians of all playing levels, happening Sunday, July 12 from 7:00 – 8:00pm.

Calling all teens! Get live makeup and wardrobe tips and demos, chat about work as a performer, the meaning of drag, how to be fierce, and more with Sapphyre Poison, one of Ontario’s premier drag queens! Virtually Fabulous with Sapphyre Poison takes place on Wednesday, July 15 from 7:00 – 8:00pm. Note: this program is only for teens ages 13 to 18.

A tree is an investment that provides benefits for a lifetime. But with hundreds of trees to choose from, how do you know which is best for you? We’ve partnered with REEP Green Solutions for the Finding the Tree for Me program on Thursday, July 16 from 7:00 – 8:30pm. This program will help guide you through the process of choosing a tree that will thrive on your property.

Our Preston Book Club is back this month on Friday, July 31 from 10:00 – 11:30am. The book for discussion is Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice (One Book, One Community 2020 selection).

We look forward to connecting and learning with you virtually this month at Idea Exchange.
