Happy New Year from all of us at Idea Exchange! 2020 is here and there’s so much excitement in the air as we welcome another year of learning, discovery, and fun. If your new year’s resolution is to learn something new, then you’ve come to the right place! Read on for some January highlights, and check out the monthly calendar for a full listing of events.
Parlez-vous français? Whether you want to learn a bit of Canada’s second official language or brush up on your conversation skills, join us for our French Conversation Circles! This program takes place every other Saturday on January 4, January 18, February 1, February 15, and February 29 from 4:00 – 5:00pm at Preston. It also takes place every other Monday on January 6, January 20, February 3, and March 2 from 4:00 – 5:00pm at Preston. No registration required.
Help welcome in the new year by giving new life to old memories with our Memories of Storytime Multimedia Project. Join us to fill a shadowbox with a curated trip down memory lane using favourite childhood stories, crafts, and toys. Create your own one of a kind artwork on Saturday, January 11 from 10:30am – 12:30pm at Clemens Mill. This program is $10 + HST and requires registration.
Use photographic prompts from around the world in our interactive Tell Me What You See: Visual Writing Workshop on Thursday, January 16 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Queen’s Square. Author Caroline Topperman will share how to use photo to spark your inspiration and creativity, and help you create work based on these prompts. This workshop is for everyone from beginners to experienced writers. Please bring your preferred writing tools and your imagination! Registration is required.
Come one and all! Sing Your Heart Out is a learn-to-sing program that makes singing fun and accessible, whether you’re completely new to singing or somewhat experienced. This program focuses on developing a healthy vocal technique and exploring singing through weekly exercises, games, and group activities. Join us Thursdays, January 23 to February 27 from 6:45 – 8:00pm at Hespeler. This program is $25 + HST and requires registration.
Have you ever stopped to consider how digital media may be affecting your happiness? Join us for Digital Media and Happiness: Bridging the Great Divide to learn the 7 predictors of happiness and understand the full impact that digital media may be having on you or your family. This program is led by Janet Kosowan, creator of coaching company Eudaimonia, and takes place on Thursday, January 30 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Old Post Office. Learn more about this workshop here.
