The days are getting shorter and school is back in session, which can only mean one thing: fall is almost here! As the leaves begin to change, Idea Exchange rolls out our fall programming and we’ve packed the calendar full of events for all ages. Read on for some September highlights, and check out the monthly calendar for a full listing of events. Don’t forget to pick up your copy of the Fall 2018 Idea Exchange Magazine, available now at all locations.

Want to brush up on your French conversation skills? Drop-in to French: Not Just Child’s Play on Wednesdays starting September 12 from 6:30 – 7:30pm at Preston. Learn more of Canada’s second official language in a comfortable setting with others in the community.

Explore the planets and bodies within our solar system with The Night Sky: Stargazing Party on Thursday, September 20 from 7:00 – 8:00pm at Queen’s Square. Learn more about the grand scale of celestial objects and, weather permitting, attempt to view Jupiter, Saturn, Mars and the Moon through telescopes. This program is led by members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Hamilton Centre.

Did you read Broken Promise, the One Book, One Community 2018 selection? Come meet author Linwood Barclay! Join us for One Book One Community: Meet Author Linwood Barclay on Tuesday, September 25 from 6:00 – 8:30pm at Trillium United Church (450 King St. E., Cambridge) to hear him talk about his great novel. Doors open at 6:00pm, author talk begins at 7:00pm.

Want to learn how to play guitar? We’ve got you covered! Learn from an instructor from Music Lives Inc. in our Adult Beginner Guitar Lessons program on Tuesdays starting September 25 from 6:00 – 7:00pm at the Old Post Office. Or learn from an instructor from Queen Street Music School in our Adult Guitar Group program on Wednesdays starting September 26 from 8:00 – 9:00pm at Hespeler. Both programs will teach chords and strumming patterns to get you playing songs and enjoying the basics of guitar. Both programs require registration and are $35 + HST.

Bring out your creative side with CreateNight Social: DIY Book Safe on Thursday, September 27 from 6:30 – 8:00pm at Clemens Mill. We’ll show you how to hollow out the pages of an old book to create your own secret hiding place: a one-of-a-kind book safe! This program requires registration.
