November has arrived, bringing with it cool fall days and some excitement as we start to wrap up 2019 and get ready for the holiday season. Whether you want meet authors or want to be one yourself, we have great programs this month to keep you busy! Read on for some November highlights, and check out the monthly calendar for a full listing of events.

November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)! Join us on our month-long journey to writing 50,000 words. You’ll meet fellow writers in the community and have the chance to win some fantastic prizes. Our Kick-Off event takes place on Saturday, November 2 from 2:00 – 5:00pm at Queen’s Square. Throughout the month we have scheduled weekly write-ins to inspire you and other NaNoWriMo authors to write. At the end of the month, we’ll celebrate all you have accomplished with the Grand Finale on Sunday, December 1 from 2:00 – 5:00pm at Queen’s Square. These events do not required registration.

Looking for a relaxed environment to play games with friends? Join us for our Board Game Café on Thursday, November 7 from 6:30 – 10:00pm at Hespeler. Whether you’re a serious or not-so-serious gamer, you’ll enjoy this free, friendly, and fun gathering. No registration required.

The Old Post Office is the place to be this month for those who want to meet incredible authors. Join noted military historian and author Ted Barris at a Time of Remembrance event on Monday, November 11 from 6:30 – 8:30pm. Ted will talk about his latest book, Rush to Danger. Later this month, join us for An Evening with Emma Donoghue on Friday, November 22 at 6:30pm. This bestselling author (known for her novel Room) will read from her new novel, Akin. Both author events will include a Q&A and book signing and require registration. You can register for Ted’s event here, and Emma’s event here.

Game like the world is ending with the Ragnarok Team for International Games Day on Saturday, November 16 from 10:00am – 5:00pm at Clemens Mill. Play classic board games, try some new ones, and meet other board game fans in the community. You’ll also get a sneak peek at what exciting gaming ideas Ragnarok has in store for 2020. Game on! No registration required.

Get ready for the holiday season with DIY activities at Preston. On Saturday, November 23 from 2:00 – 4:00pm, come sew your own adorable felt holiday ornaments. All materials are provided for this free workshop, but registration is required. Later this month, make your own holiday décor with Crafty Creatures on Saturday, November 30 from 2:30 – 4:30pm. Learn how to transfer lettering and hand-paint your own design on a rustic wooden sign. All materials are provided. This workshop costs $10.00 + HST and requires registration.
