Oscar predictions are a tricky business, but there if there is one thing we can predict with utter certainty about 2020’s ceremony, it is this: The winner for Best Director will be a man.

We know this for certain because no women directors were nominated. In the 92-year history of the Oscars only five women have been nominated for Best Director (and only one has ever won – Kathryn Bigelow for “The Hurt Locker”), so this isn’t a shock. But considering more women directed movies in 2019 than ever before, and many of these movies were excellent, it’s pretty disappointing.
