Plenty of famous people publish memoirs, but it’s not every day that celebs put their imaginations to work and publish a work of fiction. Do you recognize the famous authors of these novels?

Mycroft Holmes : a novel Truly Like Lightning by David Duchovny  Postcards from the Edge by Carrie Fisher   Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham   An Object of Beauty : A Novel by Steve Martin   Bonfire : A Novel by Krysten Ritter,   The Umbrella Academy Volume 1: Apocalypse Suite by Gerard Way

It takes a particularly multi-talented person to make a name for themselves in a completely different discipline before becoming an acclaimed novelist. Since retiring from basketball, NBA All-Star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been devoted to the art of mystery; in addition to writing for the television series “Veronica Mars,” he is also the bestselling author of the “Mycroft Holmes” series (about Sherlock’s brother). Several TV actors have got in on the fiction action, including David Duchovny (“The X-Files”), Lauren Graham (“Gilmore Girls”), and Krysten Ritter (“Jessica Jones”). Movie actors like Steve Martin and Carrie Fisher are the real over-achievers: Martin is known for his novels, plays, and screenplays, while Fisher has written several books in addition to a not-so-secret career as a script doctor. Musicians also make great novelists. Ever heard of hit graphic novel (and Netflix series) “The Umbrella Academy”? It was written by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way.

And it’s not just adult fiction. Many celebs have tried their hands at writing children’s books. Look below to see some of our favourites:

Elbow Grease by John Cena   The Land of Stories: the Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer  Freckleface Strawberry by Julianne Moore  The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak   Sulwe by Lupita Nyong'o  The Case of the Time-Capsule Bandit by O. K. Rhodes

Have you ever read a work of fiction by a celebrity author? Did you love it or should they stick to their day job?
