“A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.” – Unknown
When I was growing up my Nana was my favourite person in the world. It was a good day if it could be spent in her company—riding on the bus to the shopping centre, sitting on the beach with cans of Hires root beer, or watching late night movies on City TV while eating butterscotch sundaes.
My Nana was a sparkly gem of a person who made everything fun. She talked to me like I was a friend, and she was always so happy to see me. That kind of thing is precious, and I’m thankful for the years that I had with her.
There are times even now, when I catch a scent on the breeze of some faraway beach, or backyard oasis long gone, and I’m taken back to a simpler time, just for a moment.
There is a wisdom that comes with people who have seen more sunsets than we have; a grace and a joy that can only come from more days spent on Earth.
In honour of Grandparents’ Day, we have compiled a list of books that feature wise, seasoned characters with great stories to share.
You may also enjoy these movies.
Do you have a special memory of your grandparents? We would love to hear about it in the comments section below!
And to all of the grandparents out there—Thank You.
