Of all the things I miss from pre-COVID life, I’d say browsing in book stores and libraries ranks among the highest.  Not surprising coming from a guy working in a library, but it’s true.  I’m a big-time book browser.  When I’m looking for something new to read, I start with a kernel of an idea like: maybe something historical, or something scary sounds fun – maybe something with a shark!  I rely on wandering the physical location, flipping through books, perusing displays, and talking to fellow readers as a source of inspiration and a way to narrow down my choices.  From what I’ve heard from our members, you miss browsing for books as well.  Who can blame you?  We have great staff, beautiful locations, and there’s always something new to see.

Hopefully the pandemic is in its last days and thing will return to normal soon.  In the meantime, I’d like to introduce you to our Personalized Picks service.  It will never replace in-person browsing, but for the busy or home-bound, it could be just the thing you are looking for.

Simply visit the Personalized Picks page our web site, answer a few short questions about your reading/viewing preferences, and our knowledgeable staff will pull together a selection of materials we think you’ll love. Whether you’re looking for adventurous fiction, suburban thrillers, historical romance, or maybe a new cookbook or DVD series – we are ready to set you up with your very own custom grab-bag of goodies ready to be picked up at whichever branch you choose.

Sounds good, right?  It is!  As a bonus, if you choose to use this service, you will make Idea Exchange staff very happy.  We love sharing books recommendations!  It’s one of our favourite parts of the job and we hardly get to do it anymore.

So, what are you waiting for?  Give it a try today! You might discover the book you didn’t know you were waiting for.
