Programs + Events | June 1, 2018

June is finally here, bringing with it sunny summer days and more programs for you to enjoy! We’ve got something for everything, from hands on experiences to lectures! Check out the monthly calendar for a full listing of events, and read on for some highlights.

Have you ever wanted to try 3D design? Sign up for our Introduction to Tinkercad program on Saturday, June 9 from 10:30 – 11:30am at Queen’s Square. In this hour long session, we will teach you the basics of using Tinkercad to design your own object and prepare it for 3D printing. Make sure you bring a USB!

The next Cambridge Third Age Learning lecture is on Thursday, June 14 from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Trillium United Church (450 King Street East, Cambridge). The topic this month is The Berlin Zoo: Humans, Animals, and Nazis. Dr. Gary Bruce will discuss the zoo’s history throughout the Second World War including the impact of the Nazi regime, the bombing in 1943, and its resurrection by the people of Berlin.

Wednesday, June 20 is World Refugee Day. Join us from 7:00 – 8:15pm at Queen’s Square for My Story: #BecomingNeighbourWR as we commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees, and show support for families forced to flee and those who chose to leave former lives behind to start over in Cambridge. Our speakers will share their stories of migration, settlement and learning to be a Canadian.

Get creative with us! Cambridge Handweavers and Spinners will talk about natural dyes at our Gardening & Beyond: Natural Dyes program on Monday, June 25 from 7:00 – 7:30pm at Preston. They’ll show you want you need to enjoy this activity and teach you about plants and other sources of natural dyes.

The big day is almost here! Our new location, the Old Post Office, will be opening at the end of the month. We can’t wait to show you, which is why we’re inviting you to join us for a guided tour. Come experience the Creative Studios, Discovery Centre and Makerspace, and learn about the restoration of the Heritage Staircase and clock tower!

We’re looking forward to seeing you in June at Idea Exchange!
