Fiona St. James, a former child-star-gone-wild, is living a quiet life far from the bright lights and the paparazzi. She absolutely is not interested in participating in a reboot of her classic TV series, “Birds of California.” But her former co-star (and teenage crush) Sam Fox – whose own career is floundering – is determined to bring her on board. The premise sounds like your typical romantic comedy, but be forewarned: While it does have a spicy romance and snappy dialogue, this is a story about two complicated people who have been exploited and discarded by the Hollywood machine. Author Katie Cotugno deftly handles themes of mental health and coming to terms with trauma. Highly recommended for romance fans who also like to cry a little.
