Despite being animated, this is not a children’s movie as it deals with themes such as globalization, industrialization, and modernization. There is almost no dialog, but you don’t even notice because of the artistry and the vibrant colours that make up this world. Cuca is a young boy that sees the world from the joyous point of view of a child. When his father must leave their village to find work, Cuca tries to follow him and ends up in some new and intriguing places. A visual treat, the thing I loved most about this movie was the end. Both heart-breaking and hopeful, I didn’t predict the ending at all. I’m still thinking about it! A must-watch especially if you are looking for something different.
