An understated comedy about an actor (Paul Giamatti) who is feeling a little too world weary while preparing himself for Chekhov's play Uncle Vanya. Giamatti, who reads an article in the New Yorker about soul extraction, goes through the medical procedure to not entirely satisfactory ends. More understated humor follows, but the movie (thankfully) doesn't veer into madcap stupidity.
