Bennett, Robert Jackson
As a fan of good fantasy novels, I loved Bennett’s The Divine Cities trilogy for its deep, immersive world-building and indelible characters. His new Founders series gets off to an excellent start with Foundryside, which tells the story of a young thief named Sancia who steals a terrifyingly powerful magical artifact and gets tangled up in a battle between competing merchant-houses. The magic system in this world is particularly interesting, since it has parallels to coding, programming and hacking, almost like a cyberpunk thriller transposed to a Renaissance city-state. If you’re seeking an engaging fantasy series from an author who won’t leave you waiting too long for more story, look no further!
