This is a thoughtful exploration of the world of AI development, explaining why the emergence of artificial general intelligence (AGI) will completely change how we live as human beings…for good or for ill. Although we aren’t sure when this technological shift will happen, Tegmark builds a compelling argument for why we should start today to build firm principles for dealing with the ethical, legal and societal issues AGI will usher in. In essence, it’s a matter of planning ahead to build the kind of robots and digital minds we want to live with for centuries to come. This is a book worth reading if you are interested speculating about our technological future.
