Loving Vincent is a stunningly beautiful animated film created from hundreds of oil paintings done in the distinctive style of Vincent Van Gogh. Aside from this eye-popping technical achievement, the movie explores the background behind Van Gogh's final days in the south of France, including the mysterious nature of his death (an apparent suicide occurring in peculiar circumstances). The subject matter is emotional, but understanding the struggle behind the art adds to one's appreciation of the artist's post-Impressionist masterpieces, which are renowned for their vibrancy, expressiveness and energy, passion that radiates from the canvas. A spectacular film to pay tribute to a singular soul.
