Most of us know actor Rowan Atkinson from his comedic roles, such as Mr. Bean or Black Adder, but Maigret shows us he is a great dramatic actor as well. Based on the mystery novels by Georges Simenon, the series follow Maigret, a thoughtful detective, through a series of crimes in post-war France. Filmed in Budapest, the show evokes old world Europe beautifully. The actors, especially Atkinson, make the characters comes alive and I like that Maigret has a nice relationship with his wife, unlike most TV detectives. Solid mysteries, but sometimes the directing is a little too “cinematic” which takes you out of the moment. Still, worth a watch if you like murder mysteries or if you want see Atkinson in a completely different role.
