Scribble, scribble, scribble

Schama, Simon.
I am convinced that Schama has the ability to make almost any topic interesting, what with his awe inspiring knowledge in a variety of areas; his clear, eloquent and intelligent writing style, and his overall sense of humanity. The collection of previously published essays and reviews include pieces on traveling (why America is unloved); America after 9/11 (too much histrionics, too little democracy); art (wonderful writing about Anselm Kiefer, John Virtue, and Richard Avedon); food (passionate about ice cream and critical of overwrought food writing), and history (defends his attempt to bring history to the public in his TV series: The History of Britain) to name but a few areas of interest.
