This month, explore virtual worlds and get that epic story out of your imagination and onto the page.

Virtual Worlds

Picture this: You’re snorkeling through a coral reef as tropical fish flit past, colourful as tiny jewels.

Stop to blink, and this time, you’re standing on a mountaintop in the Himalayas, gazing down at the ruins of an ancient temple.

Is this a particularly scenic dream?

Nope, it’s VR, otherwise known as virtual reality. Bored on a Tuesday night? All Netflix-ed out? Deep-dive into a world of fantastic possibilities and experiences using nothing more than your smartphone and a Google Cardboard viewer.

Get started with the VR experience with our Make Your Own Google Cardboard event, 6 – 8pm on Thurs. Nov. 9 at Queen’s Square. Sign up to make your own Google Cardboard viewer and test out the HTC Vive and PS4 VR.

 Bring Your Story to Life

If you want to get inspired to write that story, poem or fan fic you’ve been dreaming up, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is here to help! November is jam-packed with write-ins and hangouts at Idea Exchange branches to help you make that word count and take your creativity to the next level. Check it out here and via the NaNoWriMo Cambridge forums for a list of all the local write-ins.
