This month we asked local teens to recommend their favourite summer pastimes. If you’re looking for the next big thing, read on:

This month I am loving Nicki Pau Preto's Crown of Feathers trilogy. I have read the first 2 books and am awaiting the release of the third book. I am loving Nicki's books, especially how they involve phoenixes, as I haven't read many books with them. The world of the trilogy is also unique and engaging. I enjoy the characters, especially Veronyka, and I can't wait to see how her story ends! (Abigail S).

I am reading the One Punch Man manga. It is action packed and also very funny. The main character is hilarious and the storyline is amazing. (Maryam U.)

This month I am loving the "When Calls the Heart" shows on Netflix. This is because they are based in times I wasn't here for, so it's cool to know how they lived back then even though it's fiction. (Gabrielle S.)

I started watching this Turkish show called “Dirilis Ertugrul.” It is so amazing! Once you get used to reading the English subtitles (on Netflix or Youtube), it is the best show you will ever watch. It is pretty violent, as it is about the father of Osman the first, founder of the Ottoman Empire. (Sahar K.)

Right now I'm really into the self-titled album Sawayama by Rina Sawayama. I didn't think I would like it, but Rina Sawayama is incredibly talented and her songs all have such depth to them. My favourites are STFU!, Comme Des Garcons, Akasaka Sad, Bad Friend, and Chosen Family. If you like indie pop, or songs you can dance to, you should definitely check out Sawayama. (Gemma T.)

I recently watched the 2019 film Get Duked! (available on Amazon Prime Video), and I loved it a lot. The film follows four teens trying to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award in the Scottish Highlands, only to have to fight for their lives after a mysterious guy tries to kill them. It has a great mix of comedy and action, and features some truly hilarious set pieces. The four main characters have exceptional chemistry, and it's always fun to see some not-so-bright people try to solve problems. I highly recommend this film, especially to fans of Hot Fuzz. (Charlotte T.)

I love practicing archery with my new bow and arrow set that I got for my birthday. It's a great sport, and you exercise all sorts of upper body muscles! If you run and shoot, that engages everything! (Saha K.)
