Belong Together: A Community Art Project

  • Puzzle pieces in the shape of people fitted together

Shannon, Queen's Square | July 5, 2021

Your tile, just like you, matters… and every one of us fits. We belong together.

Feeling a bit fragmented and disconnected? We get it! So many of our daily connections and interactions have been put on pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, that it’s easy to feel alone. This summer, lets remind ourselves and each other that, even apart, we’re each an integral piece of the puzzle.

Part of the larger BelongTogether.ca project, Idea Exchange is creating and displaying a visible reminder that we, our community, belong together. How can you participate? You start by picking up a puzzle package at any Idea Exchange location and decorating your tile to represent YOU and all the wonderful things you bring to our world.  Then you decorate three post cards and write messages of belonging on the back. When you’re finished drop it all off at any Idea Exchange location. At the end of the summer you’ll be able to view your tile on display at one of our locations. Imagine it! A beautiful, technicolor, display of us all together!

What is with the cards?! When you decorate one, and write a happy message on the back, you are sending good vibes to neighbours in our community, and letting them know that they belong with us too. Cards will be delivered to Community Living Cambridge, for distribution among their clients.

Looking for volunteer hours? Returned packages with a submission slip, one wooden tile and three post cards will earn 3 volunteer hours. For those on our volunteer team already, the hours will be added to your VicNet account. Not yet a volunteer with us? You can include your email address and we’ll mail you a letter to confirm your hours.
