Breaking Ground on a New Library

Chrissy Hodgins, CEO; Mayor Jan Liggett; Thomas Sandor, Cambridge Public Library Board chair; and other Councillors and partners at the groundbreaking for the new Cambridge Recreation Complex.

Cambridge Public Library is thrilled to share that construction of our sixth location has officially started! Our new location will be co-located at the new Cambridge Recreation and Library Complex in Southeast Galt. To mark this milestone, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on October 24, 2024.

The library site at the Cambridge Recreation and Library Complex will be built on 32.5 acres of land on Wesley Boulevard. It will be part of a joint-use campus that will include an adjacent complex with a new Catholic elementary school and a new public school including daycare.

The new library location will be 12,600 square feet and offer access to library collections, study spaces, a community room, a program room, and more. Other highlights of the space include comfortable spaces for reading and productive workspaces that have views to the complex's courtyard via the library terrace, as well as a vibrant children's area with access to a reading garden.

Cambridge Public Library is excited to open the doors to this newest library in late 2026, when the complex is expected to be completed.
