435 King Street East, Cambridge, ON
One of a three part exhibition that provides access to our permanent collection of Contemporary Canadian fibre based work. The largest assemblage of works from our collection will be on display at all three galleries.
In the late eighties, Idea Exchange Art + Design (formerly Cambridge Galleries) decided to pursue a particular collection mandate focused on the fibre medium to reflect the region’s industrial base which was established by the textile industry, and because this specialization sets us apart from other institutions. It is through the efforts and dedication of Mary Misner, past Gallery Director of 27 years, that this collection remains as one of the largest contemporary textile collections in Canada.
The nature of the work in our collection is extremely varied; the artists represented offer diverse vision, use of materials and techniques. Although the collection has its roots in the textile heritage of Cambridge, these works offer us critical contemporary explorations of the fibre medium.
The collection has been supported by various levels of government; the efforts of dedicated volunteers and their fundraising events; and by individual and corporate donors. We sincerely appreciate their continued interest.
