Jim Logan: Surviving Under Occupation

Jim Logan was born in 1955 in New Westminster, BC and grew up in a Métis household, in Port Coquitlam, BC. He studied at the Kootenay School of Art in Nelson, BC Jim spent a number of years working in a ministry near Whitehorse, YT called Kwanlin Dün. While there, his life and art career changed completely and it was there when he first began painting social statement pieces from his experiences as a lay minister in Kwanlin Dün Village.

Jim sheds light on the low visibility of Aboriginal aesthetics in formal art history and has managed to add a new significance, a Native perspective, to the icons of Western art. His approach allows him to question European dominance, not just in North America, but all around the globe. His painting style consists of varied approach to the Native way of life. He urges for the restoration of identity and self-awareness within First Nations communities.
