Leave (The Nest)

Leave (The Nest)
2006

Leave is about the outgrowing of old parts of one’s life. It is about leaving old nests of safety and making changes in mid-life. This bowl was constructed on the sewing machine by arranging, adding, and manipulating stripes of paper torn from old books. The images are hand embroidered; some are appliquéd. The birds look out of the old Inuit prints on the walls. There once they were mute witnesses, they now whisper “fly”.
